Kara Walker, Camptown Ladies
I love how Walker uses black silhouettes against a white backdrop. The shapes remind me of silhouette puppetry. Her pieces also have a fairy-tale like quality with the profiles of its subjects (often having very pointy noses, fingers and feet). The black and white also offers a sense of anonymity to the subjects. In this piece, a rabbit seems to be shooting a gun, while a man holding a carrot is chasing a woman.
