Chuck Close- "Maggie"
This painting, "Maggie" by Chuck Close, uses complex mixes of color to create great shading. The image is divided into small squares in a grid pattern, and each square contains an abstract piece with bold colors that one wouldn't expect to find in skintones. However, when the viewer backs up and looks at the piece as a whole, complimentary colors blend together to form the illusion of neutral colors, and the shading all appears to be in mostly traditional colors.
