In "Electric Chair" Warhol uses bold, warm colours on a stark ground. The brightness and generally perceived cheerfulness of the red and yellow are juxtaposed with the stark connotations of the chair (death, punishment, murder, etc.), shocking (and maybe confusing) the viewer. Despite its simplicity (two-color screenprint) the piece has a high impact on the viewer, largely as a result of its coloration.
