Jessica Stockholder

These photos are taken from Jessica Stockholder's installation titled "Your Skin in this Weather Bourne Eye-Threads and Swollen Perfume." This is a large-scale work that incorporates a variety of materials and a wide color range. It creates a space which the viewer can move through, experiencing the shifts in hue and texture. In contrast to the bright colors running throughout this piece, the black rectilinear frame stands out almost as a window into an interior space. In addition, the vivid colors create an almost synesthetic feeling by their association with the tactile qualities of the diverse materials. I think this work displays a playful realm of sensory stimulation, while at the same time creating a beautiful and contemplative space.
