I enjoyed this painting by Laylah Ali because of her use of grapic novel style blocks to divide the piece. these blocks indicate changing time. Ali describes the piece as being about pre and post violence with semi calm in between. I enjoy the political nature of the piece as well as the way in which she used cartoon style characters to convey a topic as serious as violence. I am able to feel the sense of repetition, the never ending cycle that surrounds the individuals at the center of the work.
