Color Artist: Barbara Kruger

This work uses color for maximum effect. The underlying picture is reminiscent of a 1960s advertising beauty--simply, black and white, wholesome girl--but both the use of the negative and the color red produce jarring effects. She is no longer a plain beauty, she is angry, which is reinforced by the text--mainly the word battleground. Color coupled with text, here, serves to cut the bland and deliver a poignant message.
