Value Artist

In this photograph, Hiroshi Sugimoto creates both a realistic image and a value study. The picture plays on the commutative nature of water and air using the well-suited design element of value. One can almost not decipher where the water ends and the sky begins because the value scale is so gradual. The fact, however, that the view can guess, at first glance, that this picture is of water and sky shows the significance of value in depiction.
