This work by Vija Clemins "untitled (Big Sea#1)" is believe it or not graphite on acrylic ground. I was astounded when i read this was a graphite value work because it is so very realistic. Her attention to shadow and highlight ove the wave lulls and crests is remarkable. She is very attuned to consistency within her value range. As a result, this attention to detail takes a complex value study and generates an undeniable and recognizable image to the viewer. Awesome!Wednesday, April 8, 2009
