Ritual Artist: Joseph Beuys
This is actually a postcard that promoted an installation by Joseph Beuys called 7000 Oaks. This sculpture project, began in 1982 in Kassel, Germany, called to plant 7000 trees each accompanied by a columnar basalt stone approximately four feet high above ground. The project was meant to stimulate ideas of urban renewal, environmental awareness, and to create social change. The German postcard says, "An Idea Grows Roots". I found this postcard and the motivation behind the installation both intriguing and an awesome example of how art can transform the ideas and world around us. Also, art's importance is more influential on our everyday ideas, lives, and inspirations than we all realize.
