Sol LeWitt: Isometric Projection #13
This piece looks almost as if it were not a drawing in pen and ink, but a computerized depiction of some mathematical concept. All lines within each "face" of the figure run completely parallel to one another, and the contrasts between these groups of lines are clear and well-marked. After a few moments of carefully watching the picece, however, the perfection and mathematical appearance begin to melt away. The eye can no longer take in such a bold and frequent contrast in value; the lines appear to become fuzzy and shaky. After a while, the eye can no longer focus, and attempts to comprehend the image through involuntary movement and refocusing. Such power in such a (seemingly) simple and straightforward design!
