System Artist: Robert Ryman

As a minimalist painter, Robert Ryman does not use a wide range of color for his paintings. This is a clear example of this minimal style. Yet, although he does not use much color, the white contrasts pretty harmonically to the the beige background it is painted on. The texture is rich and thick; even the background has a rich texture to it. The little dabs of color add to this illusion of texture and give it the appearance of movement. I find this a very interesting piece as even though it only uses very simple colors and a simple design, you can still look at it and find many varied and different things to focus your attention on.
