This work is by Agnes Martin, an artist who associated herself with the abstract expressionist movement. This is an artwork that I would like to see in person- there are subtle gradations in color and paint quality that do not show up well on the image. The painting is minimalist in its use of straight, even lines and pale colors. At the same time, this painting seems to have a spiritual quality. I image Martin intended the viewer to contemplate the work rather than just look at it.
