Tara Donovan: System Artist
Tara Donovan's "Nebulous" reminds me of the contour drawings from class. With its focus on free-flowing lines and movement, the piece seems to speak more of nature than a traditional portrait would convey. Somehow the artwork carries a feeling of natural beauty without an explicit focus on aesthetics. Donovan once said: "It is not like I'm trying to simulate nature. It's more of a mimicking of the way of nature, the way things actually grow." Just as our drawings from memory were mere depictions of what we believe a face and its features represent, so too can our perception of nature overlook the deeper details of natural beauty. The contour drawings and observation allowed us to see the way things actually are rather than what we expect them to be.
