Lobster Trap and FIsh Tails
This mobile by Alexander Calder, "Lobster Trap and Fish Tails," is a good example of balance. The three elements are relatively balanced horizontally and there is vertical balance with more objects towards the bottom suggesting stability. There is also textural balance between the smooth black shapes and the "lobster trap" shape. The upper most element also is balanced because the bright color draws attention to it even though it is smaller. I liked this piece because of the title and because of the interesting use of asymmetrical symmetry.
