Brittany Katz: Ritual Artist- Matthew Barney

I found this image particularly intriguing because of the bright contrasting colors.  The bright orange skirts and bright blue balls form a lovely complementary color system, the rest of the picture being mostly white, black, or grey.  Once you get past the initial "color shock," you notice the faces of the children in the skirts, each one with a different expression.  The overwhelming orange, even reflected in the children's faces, puts viewers in a happy mindset.  Though these outfits are unusual, the I was more struck by the color, and it took me a while to realize that these outfits were so strange.  I personally liked the use of three children in the front of the picture.  I have found that artists commonly work with threes, a technique that I myself find aesthetically pleasing.
