I chose this work by
Christo mostly because I happened to be living in Berlin when the
Reichstag was wrapped in 1995. Especially as a kindergartner, the scale of the work was unbelievably impressive. I loved how the fabric folds cascaded from the roof and how the building looked in the sunlight. The
Reichstag is a symbol of Democracy in Berlin, and the building was wrapped shortly before Norman Foster's famous renovation which added a modern glass dome over the
parliamentary floor. I find this work to be similar to
Christo's other work in lacking an obvious agenda or message, but evoking a pure sense beauty.
