Do-Ho Suh: Scale/ Proportion Artist

"Floor"

This sculpture by Do-Ho Suh captures the feeling of weight using the viewers conception of scale. Seeing the many extremely small people juxtaposed against the normal-sized shoes, the viewer identifies more with the position of the people, hence it is the standing figure that appears so conceptually big and heavy. The compositional scale of this picture reinforces that feeling as well, with the straining masses crushed into the bottom quarter of the frame under the heavy black shapes of the feet.
