Esteban Diaz

I have seen some pictures before that manipulate focus techniques to get the "toy" look, but every new one still surprises me. Diaz has done an excellent job with this real, life-sized airplane that he has photographed from above, making it look like a tiny model on fake grass. When an airplane, such a monstrously huge object in reality can appear small and fragile with a slight adjustment of a lens, it makes me think about the value and power we attribute to these machines, and the importance of the context in which we consider them. I also really like how Diaz's photos are taken from a kite that he flies--a small toy that flies above the behemoth and makes it seem small and insignificant, a complete role reversal.
