Miranda July
This comes from Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher's public-art project called "Learning to Love You More." The project includes a web site with "assignments" to be submitted and posted by the public. There are currently 70 assignments which represent exercises which bring people together through the creation of art. Some of the submissions are included in public displays, from informal community spaces to formal art galleries. This photo shows an exhibition of the work of the Oliver family, who completed all the assignments. I think this project is a very clever and successful way bring together a contemporary community which integrates the emerging public space of the internet with more traditional community spaces. I loved looking through the assignments on the website and seeing some of the submissions. I also really enjoyed the way that July and Fletcher allow the public to be the artists in this project.
