This is part of Nina Katchadourian's "Mended Spiderwebs" series, a collection of photographs of bright red starched thread attached to real spiderwebs. At first glance, the rigid network seems to structurally fit in the angular hole in this spider's home, but a closer observation reveals how out of place it really is. Katchadourian's lines are thick and rigid as compared with their natural neighbors, and their somewhat haphazard connections evoke a sense of clumsiness and unbalance. This "fish out of water" makes us think about our role as human beings, and emphasizes the delicacy of the natural world.
