Mel Chin's Seven Wonders

These seven 70-ft-tall pillars created by Mel Chin, entitled "Seven Wonders", tower above Buffalo Bayou's Sesuicentennial Park in Houston. The columns represent the themes of agriculture, energy, manufacturing, medicine, philanthropy, technology and transportation. The columns are composed of 150 children's drawings that are etched onto squares of stainless steel. At night, these columns are illuminated and look like giant lanterns. What I like about this work of art is that it is not just there for everyone to see, but it has part of the people in it, through the drawings of the children.
