Mark Bradford
From a distance, this collage by Mark Bradford looks almost like a dense city map--chaotic and sprawling. The black and white "roads" that tunnel through the vibrant colors create a rough visual texture that enhances the industrial, urban, yet somewhat organic nature of the city, making it seem as if the tiny buildings are indeed sprouting out of the canvas into the the z-plane. It almost looks like a painting that exploits impasto.
