Pattern and Texture Artist: Helen Mirra

This piece by Helen Mirra represents an amazing use of space through pattern and the breakdown of that pattern. The design with the triangular tiles is, in itself, interesting. However, the art goes a step further in complementing its space--the architecture, the simple and somewhat industrial nature, and the infiltration of light. The overall shape of the composition fits the room; the pattern of triangles mirrors the scaffolding holding the lights which are arranged in a tight pattern themselves; and finally, the play between tile and floor (each with a different texture) reflects the penetration of light through the windows. The light penetrates the room just as the floor does into the system, or pattern, or tiles.
