Bernd and Hilla Becher
This image by Bernd and Hilla Becher is one of a large series of photographs examining the aesthetic qualities of industrial buildings. I think the strongest elements that follow the principles of visual unity are the parallel structure of the building and the relatively low angle of the photograph, which invites the viewer to follow the path of the winding pipes from the top to the bottom and back up again, in an almost continuous loop which draws attention to the striking uniformity of its construction and even its negative space, such as the two triangles formed by the uppermost bend in the pipes.
