Joan Miro was a Spanish artist who tried to undo established art techniques and helped begin the surrealist movement. He was one of the first artists to practice automatic drawing where the artist moves his hand freely around the page to try to express the subconscious. Miro's unique use of color and shape gives his art a spontaneous quality that makes it exciting to look at.
