Piet Mondrian: Broadway Boogie Woogie
While most of us are familiar with Mondrian's more famous work, I personally prefer this one for its sense of movement and energy. After some quick internet research, I learned that this work, his last, was inspired by the exuberance he experienced while living in New York City (the yellow was apparently inspired by the taxi cabs). It's fascinating that simple geometric shapes, in this case squares and rectangles, can, through the use of color and brightness, create feelings in the viewer without depicting any particular scene.
