Piet Mondrian

This work by the cubist artist Piet Mondrian is one of the more extreme examples of his affinity for minimalism. His composition is reduced to horizontal or vertical lines of equal widths portioning off various areas of negative space, with splashes of primary colors interfering. the way in which some of the colored shapes obey the black lines and some lie in some freedom from them was particularly alluring to me. It is interesting how the color guides the viewers eye around the periphery, and the center sinks back as a result.
