"Right After" by Eva Hesse

One of my favorite things about this piece is the fact that it truly appears to be floating in space. Reminiscent of a cloud in the sky, Hesse's piece seems to be caught in the middle of two opposite forces; the effects of gravity can be seen through the soft curves of the wire as it falls downward, while invisible wires keep the sculpture effortlessly suspended in the air. As light shines on the white strings, we can appreciate the infinitely different shapes being created through the negative space within, as well as the subtle shadows in the pendent strings. The fact that there do not seem to be any loose ends gives a sense of continuity and completion. In my opinion, Hesse's sculpture is beautiful and thought-provoking, and its unity and composition was wonderfully crafted.
