This piece of painting depicts the famous Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale in a different light. Wolves in nature are not nearly as bad a depicted in fairy tales and so Kiki Smith seems to show a very friendly wolf. The deer on the right seems to be a transformation of the wolf on the left (same color). On the left is a smaller paining of the more traditional tale. Perhaps, the author wants to convey the idea that all animals are docile and will appreciate the companion of mankind if we can understand them better.
