Bechers

I find this "Water Towers" by Bechers to be an excellent example of visual unity. Not only does the regimented, grid-like organization of the photographs allow my eye to immediately identify the similarities between objects, the photographer also creates visual unity by selecting images that all have similar structures (long support beams, oval tanks, etc.) I particularly like the way that the visual unity in this piece almost distracts the viewer from seeing the images simply as water towers. Viewing them together they almost look like War of the Worlds -type extraterrestrials or robots.
