Frank Breuer, Untitled x 6
There is some pretty strong visual unity to the piece, created mainly throughout the very similar shapes of the buildings in each photograph; each is long and rectangular, surrounded by field and centered in the frame. The negative space is not only similarly shaped in each photo but also is the same color sky. The grid layout further contributes to the visual unity and the sense of strict lines, reflecting the building and perhaps the industrial culture they represent. The design seems purposely boring, but some variety is provided by the coloring. I find this piece depressing, but effective.
