Geometric Shape Artist

In this piece, Modrian continues to use his signature primary color scheme, as well as using geometric shapes. There is definitely a strong grid that unifies the piece. The shapes are all repeating rectangles of varying sizes. The fact that some are larger gives these particular rectangles a certain significance. This ties into the title, "New York City," a city in which roads are mostly laid out on a strict grid, ranging from major thoroughfares and avenues to small side streets.
