Joan Miro: The Village of Prades

This piece by Joan Miro is titled The Village of Prades and is an excellent example of the artist’s use of sharp geometric shapes. A sense of visual unity is established through the repetition of sharp lines, geometric shapes and the use of vibrant color. I find it interesting how the abstract foreground contrasts with the more realistic background. The bold, unrealistic colors of the foreground seem to match its abstractness, while the colors of the more truthful background have a subtle and natural feel. Yet, the transition between these two spaces seems flawless due to the varied repetition of lines and the subtle shift in colors.
