Kara Walker

This image is interesting because the black shape can portray both a positive and negative space.  The black, when taken as positive space appears to be two girl.  If taken as positive space, it is more abstract, but almost looks like a nose.  In that case part of the black looks like sunglasses.  This unclear boundary between positive and negative space is intriguing.  In addition the clear cut line, which usually is pretty boring, is interesting because it is so detailed and specific.  It is also quite an odd shape, so either way it is taken, it is strange yet intriguing.
