Joan Miro

This work instantly reminded me of a drawing by Hendrick Goltzius of Hercules because of its improbable anatomy. I find that I am drawn to the work by the way in which the artist has chosen to represent this nude, in a way that eschews convention, by refusing to produce a contrived, stylized figure. The contrast of shapes adds and appealing and interesting element and serves to break down the body with a series of lines. The lines follow the curve of her body and starkly contrast to the perfect geometric line framing the painting. When looking at other pieces of art, by this artist, I am attracted to the use of color and the juxtaposition of lines which add texture, giving the painting another element.
