Louise Bourgeois uses organic shapes to create visual associations with the human body in "Fillette." The curvilinear shape that comprises the top portion of the work reminds the viewer of a human's head and neck, or perhaps a phallus, and the bottom portion is reminiscent of two knees kneeling. Although the figure is abstract, the organic shapes lead the viewer to identify similarities between the sculpted figure and the human body. Additionally, the bumpy, almost sweaty looking texture reminds one of human flesh. I like this piece because, for me, the work suggests a sense of warmth and approachability. It makes me want to reach out and touch the piece.
