Mondrian- Composition #10
This is an example of Mondrian's work before his famous primary color grids. Here Mondrian experiments with complete non-objectivity. The vertical and horizontal lines create both tension and overall harmony, and also establish an intriguing negative space. While the vertical lines create dynamism, the horizontal lines signify rest, and the result is an overarching equilibrium between motion and stasis. While I don't think this painting is as engaging as Mondrian's later works, it is interesting as an experiment in visual unity.
