Mondrian

Mondrian's painting, Composition with Red, Yellow, and Blue is composed of colored rectangles formed by thick black lines intersecting each other in a grid like form, therefore achieving achieving visual unity with a grid. The painting carries cubism to a state of pure abstraction.  The lines carry all the way to the edge of the canvas giving the painting the feeling that it is a fragment of a larger work. 

 

In the picture below, Modrian's geometric abstraction is applied to a jeep. the different colors highlight the forms of the car. perhaps the artist intended to reverse Mondrian's flattening of the different dimensions accounted for by cubists and to reintroduce dimensionality to his technique.
