Water Towers: Bernd & Hilla Becher

Bernd and Hilla Becher use several techniques to create visual unity in their photographic work “Water Towers.” The grid like arrangement of the photos immediately allows the viewer to recognize similarities between the images. The artists also selected water towers with very similar composition (rounded top, vertical stilts, similar size) in order to continue to create visual unity. The constant repetition within this work allows the water towers to create a visually pleasing experience rather than just being viewed as industrial structures.
