Bechers homes
This series of photographs is from a collection taken by Bernd and Hilla Becher, a German couple known for photographing different types of industrial structures. Even though these photos were clearly not taken in a factory, the organized, symmetrical form of the houses and the similar design echo the mechanical production and uniformity of the factory. The dark wood against the white paint almost resemble the steel bars that hold up industrial machines, or industrial structures like water towers. These images relate to the topics of continuity, repetition, and visual unity. There is very clearly uniformity in this photo, from the similar shape, size and color pattern of the houses, to the similar line structure of the wood. There is also continuity from top left to bottom right in the photographs, as the wood patterns on the houses increases from top to bottom and draws the eye down.
