Visual Unity: Frank Breuer
This piece by Frank Breuer shows how simple visual unity can be. The picture is of nothing but a flat landscape and an industrial-type building. But the emphasis on the horizontal in both means they compliment one another. Additionally, there are other elements that differ (texture, color, proximity to the viewer). These serve to both differentiate the nature of the two things in the picture and enhance the relationship between the block and the surfaces it stands on. The lines decorating the building's facade and the gird they lie on top of also emphasize the horizontal and thus, the visual unity. One detail that is significant in this purpose is that the grid blocks are rectangles, not squares.
