lick and lather
These two forms are self-portraits of performance artist Janine Antoni. The left sculpture is made of chocolate, and the right made of soap, which she molded in her image. She then licked the chocolate mold, and bathed with the soap mold until both sculptures became shadows of herself. I think this is particularly interesting because Antoni presents an unexpected way to create art, using her own body as a material. The creation process itself is profound, as Antoni is literally destroying her image using her own body. This relates to our ritual project, as Antoni uses the ritual process of eating and bathing to express herself, and convey messages about femininity and self-destruction.
