Miro

This piece by Joan Miro is called "Dutch Interior 1". Miro's use of the geometric shape in this piece, while not as straight forward as Mondrian's, remains abundant. Miro employs the geometric shapes and varied repetition of form and color combinations to create a sense of visual unity more so than a conceptual unity. This is due in part to working in the realm of Surrealism, where a piece is unified more by the movement of the eye and the composition than by a direct concept. Miro creates this unity in his developement of space and depth of the background, the appearance of purple shapes on left and right, and the varied repetition of the white in the central figure and the body of the dog to the lower left.
