Nancy Spero: Myth

Nancy Spero creates a sense of unity in her print Myth by using a grid like pattern and the repetition of organic forms. The artist combines images of women from many different cultures and time periods throughout history. The Egyptian figure contrasts starkly with the scantily clad woman towards the bottom of the piece. Yet these distinctive women are unified by the similarity in their gentle, curved lines. The colors utilized in the piece also have a natural, earthy effect. Unlike a great deal of the artist’s work, this piece depicts women with a more lighthearted attitude. In my opinion, this print is both fun and interesting to look at, while giving of a calming vibe.
